Nature Awareness
Explore the natural world. This course will take you on a hike through nature as I relate stories and introduce you to useful plants, trees, shrubs and vines. Learning about habitats, eco-systems and reading the landscape will enhance your outdoor enjoyment. We will also what can hurt us, tips on staying safe as well as bugs, birds and other stuff.
Topics:
- keys to identifying plants, trees, vines and shrubs
- important survival and useful trees and plants
- habitats and landscapes
- keys to common bird identification
- common mammals species
- insects, frogs, toads, and snakes
- night sounds
Land Navigation
This class will introduce you to navigating and staying safe while hiking, camping or exploring the backwoods. You will learn to use a compass, read a topographic map and find your way in the outdoors. You will be able to use a Global Positioning System and communicate information to others using grid coordinates.
Topics:
- local environmental hazards and safety information
- understanding how to use a pace count to measure distance
- how to properly use a compass with a map and in the field
- reading a topographic map to navigation and plan routes
- learn the basics of using a Global Positioning System
Field Survival Skills
This class will educate you about essential field and survival skills. Simple things like identifying poison ivy, understanding dangerous weather patterns, tying knots, and you’ll learn what to bring and how to use it. You’ll have confidence knowing that you are prepared for a 2 hour hike or a two week trip into the backcountry.

- familiarization with hazards and field safety
- proper mindset and pattern for staying alive
- building a custom survival kit
- learn to signal for rescue
- learn the basics of shelter, obtaining water, and fire starting
- basics of wilderness wayfinding
Essential Hunter Skills **
These classes are designed specifically to develop serious hunting skills that are essential to enjoying your outdoor experience and having a successful hunt. If you are after that trophy buck, or the illusive coyote, understanding the fundamentals of reading tracks and sign, trailing wounded game, stalking and camouflage skills are needed. Classes are for beginners, and experienced hunters and families.
Topics include:
- developing sensory awareness and observation skill
- identification and interpretation of wildlife track and sign
- predicting and anticipating tracks, trails and signs
- follow up trailing of down game
- the disciplines of camouflage and stalking
